Albo sends message to ISIS brides
Anthony Albanese has been asked about dozens of so-called ISIS brides trying to return to Australia from war-ravaged Syria.
A group of ISIS brides "en route" to Australia have been delayed by Syrian authorities as the Albanese government continues to deny any involvement with their return.
The term “ISIS brides” is used to describe foreign women who travelled to Syria and Iraq between 2014 and 2019 to live under Islamic State rule. Many Australians who made the journey were young women who married ISIS fighters once there. Others travelled with husbands who later joined the extremist group.
If only the threatened return of the “ISIS brides” and their children was made a teaching moment. Maybe then Australians wouldn’t be so scared of letting them come back.
The Opposition has urged the Albanese government to place temporary exclusion orders on a group of ISIS brides who attempted to travel to Damascus with the intention of continuing on to Australia, only to be turned back to the Roj camp in northern Syria.
The federal opposition has called on the Albanese government to prevent ISIS brides from re-entering Australia after the Prime Minister stood by “obligations” to citizens.
